Photography websites are a fairly specific type of website, which means photography WordPress themes need to provide a specific set of features. These include portfolio capabilities, optimization for the gallery post type and minimalist features that ensure photos display in a clutter-free environment.

This list is filled with beautiful, photography WordPress themes capable of allowing any creative to build their own site. If you can’t find a theme that suits you, check out our list of 40+ creative themes, 20 simple themes or 20 feminine themes.

Let’s get started.

BORDER is a dedicated photography theme focused on showcasing your work in beautiful ways. The homepage features a vertical slider you can use to showcase your best work. This slider is created from a gallery, and you can implement cover text to welcome visitors to your site.

You can separate images into galleries and portfolios and create places for each of them in your navigation menu. Gallery and portfolio pages can be displayed in various ways, many of which use eye-catching animations to capture your visitor’s attention. Display options include a slideshow, a masonry grid layout and a regular grid layout.

There are a number of additional features you’ll enjoy with this theme, including support for video that allows you to insert video into slideshows and grids. It also includes social media integration and powerful theme options.

BORDER is available on ThemeForest for $75.

2. Terschelling

Terschelling is a modern theme for photographers. The homepage uses a slider where each slide displays a gallery you’ve created as well as a call-to-action button targeting each gallery. The homepage can also be displayed as a static image or video.

Galleries can be displayed in a variety of different ways, such as a carousel or as a list of thumbnails. Archives can also be displayed in various ways, such as in columns of 3, 4 and 5. You can also choose which galleries to display in archives through filtering and category selection.

Layouts for galleries and portfolios come in a variety of different formats, allowing you to build beautiful displays for visitors to see. These formats include cover images, cover sliders, regular sliders, cover videos, masonry grids and carousels.

Terschelling is available at ThemeForest for $59.

3. Vega

Vega is a photography theme whose homepage is structured in a more traditional way when compared to the homepages of the previous two themes. It features a slider you can use to showcase your best work as well as an About Me widget, a grid filled with galleries you’ve created, your latest blog posts and more.

Vega comes with its own content builder you can use to design your pages, including pages that show off your work in galleries and portfolios. This builder uses a drag-and-drop interface, allowing any photographer to design and build their own galleries regardless of their skill level in code.

You can also create private galleries protected by passwords. Other features include the ability to use fullwidth templates and make simple changes using the advanced theme options panel.

Vega is available at ThemeForest for $59.

You’ll also enjoy 6 gallery layouts, each of which come with customizable options. These layouts include 2 grid styles, 3 masonry grid styles and a simple yet just as elegant vertical list style. You can customize each of these styles to make them your own.

This sidebar can be black or white depending on the color scheme you choose. You can also choose other homepage layouts, such as a slider or background video.

Your portfolio can have a similar layout, and you can even create filters for them to make it easier for visitors to sift through. You can even import demo content and switch out the demo content with your own if you need your site up and running quickly.

Photographers who lack design skills will also be able to edit their own sites with ease using the customization settings available in the theme options panel. This includes your logo, the fonts you use, the colors you use and more.

Raw is available at ThemeForest for $49.

6. myPortfolio

myPortfolio isn’t a dedicated photography theme, but it is a dedicated portfolio theme, essentially allowing you to display your portfolio in a grid layout on the homepage. You can also choose to feature a grid of your latest blog posts on the homepage instead.

This theme also comes with a portfolio post type, allowing you to use your blog to create portfolios for each project you create and feature those projects on the homepage by using the blog demo. You can also, however, create single portfolio pages and display your portfolio in various ways, such as in a slider or as static images.

A Clients widget allows you to show off which clients you’ve worked with, but the rest of the options are standard for MyThemeShop themes. They include over 600 Google Fonts, social media integration, customizations in the theme options panel and more.

myPortfolio is available by itself for $69 or bundled with MyThemeShop’s other themes for $349.

7. Aster

Aster is a photography theme that displays your portfolio on the homepage. Your visitors can scroll through this portfolio by scrolling down on their scroll wheels. This feature also works on touch devices as well as the arrows on a keyboard. You can even opt to have a single portfolio display on the homepage.

Galleries are also displayed in a horizontal fashion, and you can add titles and subtitles to each of them. You can also add a more detailed description, if you please. Lazy loading is also included, so your visitors won’t need to wait for every image to load on the page before scrolling through them.

There are also a few non-portfolio related features some photographers may be interested in. This includes different blog page layouts, an included Services page, a 1-click demo import option, easy-to-customize features and more.

This theme is available at ThemeForest for $59.

Elegant Themes is constantly coming up with new ways to improve Divi, and they pushed out a pretty big release for photographers in June 2016. This release brought a free photo gallery layout pack to Divi, allowing photographers to display galleries in 5 stunning ways.

Other Divi-specific features include a number of different options that make it possible for any non-code savvy photographer to design and build their own site, complete with a custom, designed-by-you homepage. It’s all thanks to the Divi Builder.
